Welcome!

Welcome to my website!

My name is Dylan Ewing.  I am currently a freshman at the University of Northern Colorado,  in the School of Music, where  I am working on my Bachelor of Music degree in Percussion Performance.

Music and percussion have been a very big part of my life for the past seven years.  With the skills and training that I am learning now, I am looking forward to making music and percussion my life’s profession.

“The thing about playing percussion is that you can create all these emotions that can be sometimes beautiful, sometimes really ugly, or sometimes sweet, sometimes as big as King Kong and so on. And so there can be a real riot out there, or it can be so refined.”
~ Evelyn Glennie

My interest in percussion started at a very young age, and has developed into exploring multiple different percussive styles such as; Jazz, Afro Cuban, Classical, Ghanaian, and Brazilian.  My goal as a musician and an educator is to provide effective and accurate music to those who want to learn and those who want to listen.

Biography

Dylan Ewing is a percussionist studying at Colorado State University in the School of Music. His interest in percussion has developed into exploring multiple different percussive styles such as; Jazz, Afro Cuban, Classical, Ghanaian, and Brazilian. His extensive percussion and rhythm experience include drumline, marching band, concert, symphonic and jazz band and ensembles.

Dylan began his percussion journey in middle school learning to keep the beat in the concert, jazz and pep band. He made the easy decision to stick with percussion and band throughout high school and college.

His love for percussion took hold his freshman year in high school when he became immersed in his high school’s competitive drumline, as well as an independent ensemble. His involvement continued all four years and into college performing on marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, glockenspiel and synthesizer. Dylan has performed in four state competitions in Colorado and one World Class competition in Dayton, Ohio.

Performing in Jazz ensembles is loved and endeared equally by Dylan. He truly enjoys being a part of the rhythm section including drum set, cajon, congas and keyboard. His senior year in high school he was honored to work and mentor the rhythm section in the beginner jazz band, as well as, direct and conduct several pieces with the entire jazz ensemble. Along with being the drum major in marching band, this work with the jazz band sparked his interest and pursuit of being a music educator.

Dylan’s percussion experience also includes concert, symphonic band and pit musician. Classical performance allows him to embrace all percussion instruments and he enjoys the collaboration with all band and orchestra instruments. He especially enjoys gaining experience with snare, tympani, timbales, and all keyboard instruments. Dylan has seven years of concert and symphonic band experience and two years in the orchestra pit.

“Music and rhythm find their way into
the secret places of the soul.”   ~ Plato
